"Badminton for all"
The Church's Thursday evening badminton group meets in the large hall at 8.00 pm on most Thursday evenings during the year. Thursday evening badminton started at St Johns in 1986 and has continued without any substantive break since then.
The group, which is open to both men and women, was initially formed by members of the Church but now also attracts participants from both the local community, and elsewhere.
The large hall is just big enough to accommodate badminton - the court is slightly less than full size and there are a number of overhead features (beams and lighting) that require special "let" rules. Nevertheless the hall provides an excellent facility and has seen many highly enjoyable and hotly contested games. Doubles are invariably played.

Players make a weekly financial contribution which is directed to the funds of the church, and which also covers refreshments. Badminton is a particularly sociable game and players, both past and present, enjoy an annual dinner which is usually held in the Anniversary Room. There are also opportunities to participate in other St Johns activities, and members invariably attend the annual Bums Night celebrations as a group.
On Tuesday morning from 9:45 am a more sedate game is played. Where the Thursday group is oversubscribed, anybody willing to join the Tuesday Group will be most welcome.
